We are your advocates. Choosing us means choosing a legal team focused on helping you plan your future. Learn about us here, and we look forward to learning about you.

Family law is everything from drafting and negotiating premarital agreements to establishing paternity and, yes, divorce. Family law situations can be stressful and difficult for everyone, but it does not have to be that way. We will help you move forward confidently and with dignity.

Not only do we think it’s best for parties to try and work with one another before going to court, but the courts require it. We help parties see a place of compromise and commitment to leaving mediation with the least emotional damage to everyone involved.

We’ll guide you through the process of anticipating and arranging your estate to minimize taxes and offer other benefits. Trusts allow a third party, or trustee, to hold assets on behalf of a beneficiary.

Appeals are not only procedurally complex, but they are not a “quick fix” to a trial court’s misstep. Let us talk you through whether you are eligible to appeal, what the process will look like, and whether there are other options available to you.

Compassion is the core of effective advocacy. For some, advocacy means keeping their personal life out of the courtroom, and for others, advocacy means walking into the courtroom knowing that you and your attorney are fully prepared to represent your interests effectively. Godley, Glazer & Funk has the combined experience and skills to strike a balance between these approaches depending on your needs. Regardless of what advocacy looks like for you, we will focus on your goals throughout the process so that you and your family can move on confidently to the next chapter of your lives with dignity.

One

You may think that “family law” is just a nice way of saying “divorce”. The truth is, our jobs usually begin about a year before our clients can file for an actual divorce, and typically don’t end until a few months after a judgment of absolute divorce is entered. Sometimes our clients aren’t going through a divorce at all. Family law is everything from drafting and negotiating premarital agreements to establishing paternity and, yes, divorce.

Two

We have to know a lot more than family law to be good at what we do… and we do. Our attorneys come from a broad range of legal and educational backgrounds, but we all have one thing in common: we want to use what we know to help you make the best decisions when the family, finances and future you’ve been planning for your whole life are about to be tested. We truly work as a team, and each one of us is on call to help empower you to feel confident that you’re making the best choice.

Location matters. While the law is the same across all of North Carolina, the Judges are not, and the local rules are not. Many of the laws that govern the practice areas we handle give Judges broad latitude to make a wide range of decisions such as “the best interests of the child” and to consider a wide range of factors such as “any other factor which the court finds to be just and proper.” Different counties also have different deadlines to file important documents with the court. Our discussions with our clients that reside in Mecklenburg County are very different than our discussions with our clients that reside in Iredell County or Union County, and it’s important for you to find someone who knows what you should expect if there’s a chance your case will end up in court. Currently, Godley, Glazer & Funk is representing clients in the following North Carolina Counties: Iredell, Mecklenburg, Lincoln, Rowan, Cabarrus, Union, Gaston, Catawba, Davie, Onslow, Duplin, Sampson, Jones, Craven, Carteret, and Pamlico.
