Why I Became a Family Law Attorney
From an incredibly young age, I have loved dispute resolution. I was chosen to be a peer mediator at the age of 10 in elementary school to be the liaison between my peers and administrators when conflicts broke out between students. Law school percolated in the back of my mind until I was 19 years old when I decided to pursue the profession. While at Campbell University School of Law I was selected to be a competing member of the Mock Trial team where I traveled across the country in trial competitions against other law schools. My 3L year I was part of a regional championship team. Advocating in the well of a courtroom is something I profoundly love.
I began my career as a district court prosecutor in Duplin and Onslow Counties where I particularly enjoyed victim advocacy and impaired driving cases. Domestic law found me and has transformed my life through mentorship and expansion. The most fulfilling aspect of being a family law attorney is having a direct and immediate impact on client’s lives through dispute resolution both in and out of the courtroom.
When I’m not practicing law, I’m most likely with my young sport horse riding, training for competition, or enjoying each other’s company. Being a life-long horse lover has taught me the beauty of patience, communication across barriers, grit, and dedication.
