Why I Became a Family Law Attorney

Unlike my coworkers, I never thought I would be an attorney.  I had plans to play in the NBA, plans to be a Special Agent in the FBI, and plans to be an actor.  I was hoping to accomplish all three before I turned 40.

But plans change.  I failed to make my middle school basketball team (I’m not much of a sharpshooter) and Hollywood was too far away.  So a few years after I graduated from Appalachian State, I found myself studying for the LSAT and applying to law schools.  The next thing I knew, my car was packed and I was on my way to the University of Florida to learn about jurisprudence, res ipsa loquitur, and many other terms I could barely pronounce.  During my three years in law school, I was captivated by the law, (family law specifically), and after enduring the baptism-by-fire that is the bar exam, I’ve found myself at Godley, Glazer, and Funk, practicing family law with a team of exceptional attorneys.

My plans aren’t the only ones to change; my clients’ plans change too.  From child custody to property division, my top priority is to solve whatever problems my clients face, while keeping their best interests at the forefront. Family law is naturally contentious, and it is my job to navigate the emotions of every case, while helping my clients consider all relevant factors in order to make rational decisions.   I’m here to help my clients build a secure foundation for the next chapter of their lives.

Not only do I advocate for clients in their family law matters, but I also help clients formalize their estate plans. While it can be difficult to think about what life will look like for your loved ones when you’re gone, the best thing you can do for those you care about is to leave them with a blueprint of your wishes that is seamless and stress-free.

I promise I do have a life outside of the law!  I was born and raised in Charlotte, which I’ve been told is rare.  I enjoy music, running, food, and anything involving sports.  You’ll often find me exploring the ever-changing Charlotte scene with my fiancée Lizzy and our dogs, Barney and Indi.
