Why I Became a Family Law Attorney

I knew I wanted to be an attorney for as long as I can remember.  My first exposure to the practice of law was volunteering for the Mecklenburg County Teen Court Program when I was in 6th grade.  After my 6th grade year, I continued to volunteer for this program, eventually becoming a “teen attorney” while I was in High School.  From that point on, I never looked back, and geared my undergraduate studies towards fields which I knew would be applicable when I finally got to law school, and eventually into practice.  When I finally made it to law school, if I am being honest, I really had no idea what sort of law I wanted to practice.  I still just knew that I wanted to be an attorney!

Fortunately, during the summer following my second year of law school, I had an internship at a small law firm in Matthews, North Carolina, where I was first exposed to the practice of family law.  At the end of that summer, I was offered a full-time position to come back and handle the family law matters at that firm following my graduation from law school.  While, at the time, I still did not have a full concept of what the practice of family law looked like, I knew that it had sparked my interest enough to take that opportunity.  Initially, I thought I might only practice family law for a few years, but after I dove into the practice, I quickly realized how important it was for individuals going through separation and divorce to have high quality representation.  Additionally, given the financial intricacies involved in the majority of family law cases, my strong economics background has made me uniquely positioned to assist my clients in all manner of complex financial issues that can arise during a family law case.

As a family law attorney, my greatest enjoyment is being there for my clients through the process of separation and divorce, and effectively helping them get from point A to point B, so that my clients and their families can move forward with their lives.  While I strive to seek resolution for clients outside of the Courtroom, knowing that typically, that is the best option for them and their families, I understand the importance of being a strong advocate when a collaborative settlement is unlikely.  I have been fortunate enough in my practice to learn from the best when it comes to litigating family law cases, and I have significant experience in taking all varieties of family law related issues to Court for resolution.  I am also fortunate enough to be backed by a team of partners, associate attorneys and paralegals who are committed to helping our clients at every step of the process.

While family law is essentially a 24/7 practice, I do find some spare time to play soccer and maintain a significant involvement with local and national Cystic Fibrosis charities.
