Why I Became a Family Law Attorney

Although I had not planned to be a family law attorney, I realized my desire to practice family law early in law school as a Guardian Ad Litem volunteer and through an internship with the Children’s Law Center of Central North Carolina advocating for safe custodial arrangements for children experiencing abuse and neglect in homes where domestic violence was prevalent. I also did an externship with the Domestic Court in Wake County and observed litigation involving the emotional and financial aspects of family law. It was at that point I decided I wanted to work with people facing legal challenges involving their loved ones and the people they had cared for most at one time.

As a Family Law Attorney, I have helped clients resolve a wide range of family law issues. I have represented clients in high conflict child custody disputes. I have worked with clients to determine a reasonable amount of child support based on each parent’s income. I have assisted clients in receiving spousal support awards when their spouse refused to pay, as well as defended clients who should not have been obligated to support their spouse financially. I have represented clients in determining the distribution of their assets and debts derived in their marriage and helped them to divide their estates in an efficient and cost-effective manner. My preference is to negotiate settlements to resolve my clients’ legal issues outside of Court to avoid the considerable financial and emotional burden which is placed on families through litigation. However, when the need arises, I am ready to go before a Judge and strongly advocate for the best interests of my clients and their children.

I am passionate about helping my clients make decisions that better their lives and the lives of their families, and I take pride in guiding clients to create a better reality for themselves and their loved ones. I know that as your family law attorney, my work impacts your daily life. I am enthusiastic about hearing your story and establishing realistic goals that meet your needs and the needs of your family. My objectives are to guide you through the legal process while ensuring you are informed about the various laws that may impact your case, listen carefully to your concerns, and make every effort to work effectively with you towards your goals. I look forward to working with you at Godley, Glazer & Funk, PLLC.
